Cleaning frozen/shelled prawns

Frozen and previously frozen prawns tend to have a saggy texture and a particular smell from having been frozen. This simple process will eliminate, or at least minimize, these drawbacks. Frozen prawns become plump when cooked. This also works with fresh, shelled prawns.

1.

After thawing, sprinkle potato starch and rub.

Rinse with cold water, and place on paper towel to remove extra water if necessary.

Thanks for the tip! Will corn starch work as well??

Hi silky,
Thank you for the comment.
Yes, corn starch should work too. I haven't personally tried it but I know many people use it. I heard you can also use flour but it's difficult to rinse. Cleaning with potato starch (or corn starch) works with fresh prawns after shelling as well.
