All recipes are for 2 servings unless noted. Oil is canola oil and salt is kosher salt.


Yakipiiman no shogajoyu-ae / grilled peppers in ginger soy sauce

Juicy peppers are great with ginger-infused soy sauce.


1 green pepper
1/4 red pepper
1/4 orange pepper
1 small knob ginger
2 tsp soy sauce
1 tbsp dashi


Seed and cut peppers into bite-size pieces.
Grate ginger.


Grill peppers.


Meanwhile, put ginger, soy sauce and dashi in a bowl, and mix.


When peppers are ready, remove burned parts as necessary, put in ginger soy sauce, and mix. 

  • Pair with okra or mushrooms for additional flavor and texture.
  • A tiny amount (1/4 tsp or less) of sesame oil adds a nice aroma.
